AboutShanghai is the premiere source for the western world wishing to travel to, and do business in Shanghai. We provide daily news and information as well as regular travel tips for those living, working and traveling in, with and to Shanghai. We’ve been in print since 2002 with a circulation of never less than 10,000 copies, though our print publication has been suspended barring negotiations with a new fulfillment service. We’ve also been available online since 2006, serving more than five-million readers during that time.

We have a handful of sponsors, but no company, government or agency has ever offered nor provided us any direct funding in order to garner favor for them, nor detriment to their competitors. We are sustained by our own collective passion, our select few sponsors and by our networks of advertisers, but none have ever purchased our favor, and it is likewise our intention that none shall ever do so.

Conversely, there are companies, groups, attractions, events and organizations that may feel we have reported on them unfairly. If you are one such group or organization, please let us know through the forums, by mail through our contact page, and we will equitably consider your position or situation, but please be advised that we retain full editorial rights, regardless of how many and various advertisements you may purchase on our site.

We have been accused of being too soft on the Chinese government, as well as being much too harsh on the Chinese government. Our goal is to remain truthful and neutral towards the government in our pursuit of providing the best, most accurate and most timely information for western visitors and travelers to Shanghai, China, as well as other regions of China.
